NEEDLESS DEATH OF A BASKING SHARK IN CAPTIVITY

Hasama Ocean Park, Japan, the same park in Tateyama that caught and captured the two whale sharks last summer, recently captured an endangered basking shark which soon after died in captivity.

The park has no staff on-sight who is trained to care for or manage an animal like a basking shark. And they are ultimately responsible for the death of the shark.

Pelagic animals like this cannot survive in captivity. This is a tragic waste of rare life, purely to exploit and gain financially from the animal's imprisonment and display. These animals are protected under CITES Appendix 1. Please watch and share this video:

The best way to see, experience and appreciate sharks is in the wild via sustainable, responsible shark eco-tourism.
