Nobel peace laureate, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, launched a new global anti-whaling campaign today.
Backed by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Tutu aims to ban all whaling, including Japan's so-called "scientific" slaughter of marine mammals.
Tutu condemned coordinated efforts by Japan, Norway and Iceland to legitimize whale killing as "sustainable" saying that the brutality of whaling is unacceptable.
"What makes it even worse is the brutality (of whale hunting)," said Tutu, a Nobel peace laureate, at the launch.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), which backs the campaign, says whales are usually hunted with grenade-tipped harpoons that explode inside the animal.
The campaign has the full support of Cyber Diver Society (CDS), the world's largest organization of activist divers, who work proactively for the full protection of marine wildlife and submerged cultural resources.
