Police have identified the man who died while diving near the Marriott in Kauai.Officials told CDNN that Jerry Matsui, 50, died on Wednesday afternoon after a diving accident in front of the Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club.
Lifeguards spotted Matsui in trouble about 800 yards from their rescue station.
They used a paddle board to bring him back to shore where they started CPR.
A fire rescue team from Koloa took over and rushed Matsui to Wilcox Memorial Hospital but he never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
Matsui, a resident of Viejo, California, was on holiday in Kauai when he died.
Police are investigating the diving accident and an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
