A scuba diving instructor died after he encountered problems while teaching a scuba course.
Rick Musgrave, 61, was scuba diving off Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver with four student divers when he suddenly made a rapid ascent from a depth of about 30 meters.
The other divers ascended and found their instructor unconscious at the surface.
Paramedics who responded to a 911 call at about 10:30am worked for 30 minutes to revive Musgrave and said he had a pulse as they airlifted him to hospital.
At about noon, Musgrave was pronounced dead at West Vancouver Hospital.
The fatality was the second scuba diving accident in a week at Whytecliff Park, which is popular with scuba divers.
On November 15, a 20-year-old California man was rushed to hospital and treated for decompression sickness after he ascended too rapidly and lost consciousness at the surface.
